I had the pleasure today of meeting with representatives of CityArtworks and artist Tae Kyoung Ahn, or T.K. on our campus today. T.K. will be Rodriguez Elementary School's first artist in residence and I couldn't be more excited. She brings a very energetic, colorful new perspective to the completion of our exploration in watercolor and the landscape this year. Bringing T.K. to our campus was made possible through a special grant for HISD and the organization, Young Audiences. City Artworks is the organization that sponsors T.K. Needless to say, my young artists are in for a real treat in the next couple of weeks as we round up the school year. Our goal project is to culminate our studio experiences this year with T.K. by creating a large 3-D mural in watercolor which will be permanently installed on our campus. Here is a link to T.K.'s own website: http://tkstarlight.com/
You are in for a real treat. I love her expressive and textural uses of color in her painting. Two of my students met her today and were so excited. I will keep you posted on our progress with this watercolor installation which we will debut later in the upcoming school year to commemorate our school's 10th anniversary.
