YAM - Youth Art Month

March 1st, 2010

Today marks the first day of the month and also kicks off YAM, Youth Art Month. I hope everyone out there in education, especially art education, is doing their part to support the visual arts in their schools.

I am very fortunate to be in a school where visual art is thriving and supported by our parents, students, and faculty. Not every school out there can say they have an art program. Many educators and colleagues express how lucky my students are to have me in the classroom and share this wonderful thing called "ART" everyday with them. In these time where budgets are being cut and programs compromised because there just isn't the money to support an art program, we all must be advocates for bring the world of art to our young people. Visual art develops self esteem, apprieciation for the work of others, cooperation with others, critical thinking skills - skills vital to the success of our future leaders - our children. Please join me and other art educators in demonstrating how vital art education is to our young people by supporting this month by donating your time or money to a worthy school art cause.

This month I will be blogging on ways we can all support our local, state, and national art education programs so that the future will remain bright and open for our future young artists.
