City Hall Annex Show Closing Reception

Friday, March 26

Today was our closing reception for our show at the City Hall Annex. What a way to end Youth Art Month!!! I don't know who was more proud of our students, the teacher or their parents. Regardless, it was a great way to end the month. The after school program at our school and Recipe for Success catered a marvelous reception with organic foods that looked like little artworks themselves. The students were so excited to see their work downtown in a great public venue. I will pick up the work from the venue on Wednesday afternoon and continue work on opening our exhibition at Rodriguez on April the 5th. A lot of work still needs to be done and the students are starting to burn out a bit. Not so much from working on the show, but from the rigor of preparing for their TAK exams this coming month. It is very stressful but I know that my students will continue their hard work and efforts to get everything done for our deadline. Bring the real world to the kids and they really step up their game, that is what I say. The greatest reward about today was seeing the gratitude and appreciation the parents have for what we have done with their kids. From creating a great quality art show to recognizing them from their hard work, it really does make a difference on not only what you do with your students in the art room but how you do it. I look foward to the coming weeks with great excitement and anticipation. Texas Art Supply has decided to donate gift certificates for our best of show and honorable mention artists for the exhibition. I am very appreciative of this company for realizing the importance of recognizing our students at this level. All of these things really do make an incredible difference to children in building their confidence and self esteem. I am very proud of each and every one of them.
